LOS FRESNOS – Another Valley student-athlete signed on the dotted line to take his talents to the next level at Central Methodist University.
Los Fresnos midfielder Andderson Rocha inked his name to a letter of intent to play soccer at the Fayette, Missouri, school during a small ceremony at his home on July 14.
“I’m just excited and very thankful for the opportunity, Rocha said during his signing ceremony, which was streamed live on Rio Sports Live. “I want to thank my coaches for trusting me to play and my parents, uncle, aunt, and my friends for always supporting me. Hopefully I can prove myself over there and earn a spot, and show what Los Fresnos is made of.”
The Falcons had a very successful season this past spring, in large part due to Rocha’s play, clinching the outright District 32-6A championship with an 8-2 record. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all spring sports throughout the state right before the Falcons were set to start the playoffs.
Regardless, Rocha was able to impress CMU recruiters enough to invite him to become a part of the men’s soccer team, which has been impressive in recent years by winning back-to-back NAIA national championships.
CMU is an NAIA school that competes as part of the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The university has been signing several Valley athletes in recent weeks, including, most recently, a pair of Santa Maria High School.graduates to play basketball.
