Student-Athlete Spotlight: Aaron Sidney Moore

Aaron Sidney is a member of the LFHS Baseball Team and hopes to receive a college scholarship. He is ranked in the Top 4 percent in the LFHS Class of 2021.

Inspiration for my academic success: Definitely my parents. For as long as I could remember, my parents have been pushing me to strive for success in all aspects of life, including academics. Since kindergarten, they have pushed me to have the highest grade in every class. Throughout elementary school, I had the goal to have the most Accelerated Reading points in the entire school every year. My parents always told me that average is not enough and that I needed to be better. Straight A’s have always been the bare minimum in the Moore household, and that mentality has inspired me to the academic success that I have achieved.

Life challenges: The most major challenge I have faced was when in 4th grade when our family went through some rough financial issues. My dad injured his back, and it required a high-risk surgery that could have potentially paralyzed him from the waist down. Thankfully, the surgery was a success, but the surgery cost put us in a very difficult financial situation. I was forced to miss school for weeks while we were in Austin while my dad was recovering. However, my parents helped me study away from school to keep up my academic success and overcome the adversity.

Favorite sport or activity: Baseball. Being huge baseball fans, my parents taught me how to play baseball at the age of 3. I have always loved the intricacies and specifics of the game of baseball. I am a very competitive person, always looking for new challenges, and hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports, so baseball was a match made in heaven for me. Nothing is more satisfying than recognizing that the pattern a pitcher is showing, realizing he is throwing a curveball, and then ripping it over the infield for a base hit. Baseball is a game that rewards you for your dedication, and that is why it is my favorite activity.

Balance of academics and school activities:I balance my school activities and strong academic ethic by working with my counselor before the school year to schedule my classes for appropriate times. For example, I will take more challenging classes such as Chemistry in the first semester because baseball is in the second semester. However, during the baseball season, I am also challenged with dual enrollment classes, so I have to prioritize things effectively. Coach (Rene) Morales has done an excellent job helping me with priorities, expressing extensively that school and academics come first.

Career goal: When I grow up, I want to become the CEO of a major sports agency firm. Since I was 12 years old, I have wanted to become a sports agent. I watched the movie Jerry Maguire, and I fell in love with the thought of working with all of my favorite athletes to negotiate contracts and get them as much money as possible while also earning a pretty favorable commission. I have been the President of the Los Fresnos Mock Trial team for three years, and this has helped to remotivate me toward my career path because I love the art of negotiation.
