LOS FRESNOS-It did not take long for Los Fresnos to take the reigns Saturday afternoon in front of their home crowd.
Junior striker Ashley Espzarza netted three goals in a dominating 6-1 win over district rival Donna North.
“We are feeling really good,” Esparza said. “This is amazing and overall I just feel we have what it takes and we can make a long run. I can’t express my gratitude, I love my team.”
Los Fresnos will now take on Lake Travis in the Sweet 16.
During the regular season, Los Fresnos and Donna North split the series at a game a piece. Los Fresnos won the first meeting 2-1 while Donna North won the second meeting 4-3 in overtime.
“We have played each other twice, we are in the same district,” said Los Fresnos coach Diego Luna. “The girls knew coming in that we had to play a perfect game, they are well coached and have excellent players. We had to come in swinging and that is exactly what we did.”
