LFCISD Competes in South Texas Torch Cutting Competition
- Updated: December 10, 2021

Welding students from Los Fresnos High School had an opportunity to compete in the Inaugural Lincoln Tech South Texas Torch Cutting Competition that took place at the Mercedes Livestock Show Grounds on Nov. 18th. The competition’s focus is on the competitive skills of using the oxy-fuel torch efficiently and with speed. Students were judged on the speed, accuracy, and skill level of the students using the oxy-fuel torch.
A total of 170 competitors from 15 different south Texas schools competed in the competition. We had 10 LFHS students compete in the event. 6 out of the 10 students advanced with our Los Fresnos Student, Teresa Ann Alvarado, placing 3rd in all.
Each student that competed automatically received a $500 scholarship and the third-place winner received a $1,000 scholarship to the program of their choice at Lincoln Tech.
