Certified Veterinary Assistant Level I Teacher Brings Real-World Experience to the Classroom

Los Fresnos CISD is excited to welcome Ms. Chavez as the new teacher for the Certified Veterinary Assistant Level I program. Ms. Chavez is a Licensed Veterinary Technologist with over 5 years of experience working with various animals. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and experience at the Gladys Porter Zoo Clinic and surrounding small animal hospitals.


Ms. Chavez is passionate about teaching and helping students learn about the veterinary field. She is excited to bring her real-world experience to the classroom and help students develop the skills they need to be successful in this growing field.


Through her two classes, Med Vet and Practicum of Agriculture, students will be able to test for the Certified Veterinary Assistant Level 1 Certification after obtaining 200 classroom hours and 300 clinical hours. Students in Ms. Chavez’s class will gain real-life experiences, veterinary-related skills, and employability skills through partnerships with local businesses.


“I am excited to be a part of the Los Fresnos CISD family and to help students learn about the veterinary field,” said Ms. Chavez. “I believe that everyone has a special connection with animals, and I want to help students develop the skills they need to care for them.”


Ms. Chavez is a valuable addition to the Los Fresnos CISD team. She is a passionate educator with a wealth of experience in the veterinary field. Her students are in for a treat!
**Here are some examples of how Ms. Chavez will transform the classroom: **

  • She will create a hands-on learning environment. By using life-like models, she will have students practice learned skills on them safely before transitioning to live animals.
  • She will use her real-world experience to bring the lessons to life. For example, students will have the opportunity to practice their skills on live animals ranging from cats and dogs to livestock.
  • She will partner with local businesses to provide students with real-world experience. For example, students may have the opportunity to shadow veterinarians or work at animal shelters.
