Los Fresnos, TX — The City of Los Fresnos is taking steps in honoring its veterans by building a Veterans Memorial Monument in front of Los Fresnos City Hall. This long-awaited project has been a vision for the city since discussions began back in 2013. The idea was initially presented by Javier Mendez during his time on the City Council from 2012 to 2018, and it has since become a shared passion for the community.

The project is currently underway, having been bid and contracted, with minimal work already commenced on the site. The City aims to complete the project by the end of December, marking a momentous occasion for the community.

Los Fresnos City Manager, Mark Milum, expressed the deep significance of this project for the City of Los Fresnos. The memorial is a symbol of the city’s support for its country, its armed forces, and, most importantly, its veterans who have selflessly served the nation. Veterans from all branches of the military have made tremendous sacrifices through their service.

“The City wanted to provide a place for all to come to be able to show our support to our veterans.” Says Milum.

The memorial, honoring all veterans, will occupy half an acre of the City Hall property, generously donated by the developers, Alter Holland and the Holland Family, along with Abraham Galansky and the Galansky Family.

Milum says the monument will feature a place for each branch of the military, displaying their insignia, small flags, and information on that particular branch. It will also include the United States Flag, the Texas Flag, and the POW/MIA Flag (Prisoner of War and Missing in Action).

With a project cost of $358,600, the City of Los Fresnos and the Los Fresnos Community Development Corporation are sharing the expenses, exemplifying the community’s dedication to honoring its veterans. The location of the Veterans Monument, situated off Highway 100, will be displayed in front of City Hall, displaying Los Fresnos’ support for Veterans and pride in America for all those in Town, and those passing through.

May we never forget the sacrifices our veterans made and continue to make for this Country and for our freedom.
