Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has once again earned a “Superior Achievement” rating from the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). Scoring a perfect 100, the district has achieved this top rating for an impressive 22 consecutive years.
The FIRST ratings, which reflect financial performance for the 2023-2024 school year, were officially released on August 8, 2024. This remarkable achievement underscores Los Fresnos CISD’s unwavering commitment to financial transparency and effective management.
The FIRST system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to adhere to the highest standards of financial management. It ensures that schools operate with transparency and allocate resources efficiently, prioritizing direct instructional spending to benefit students.
To determine these ratings, the TEA evaluates twenty-one key financial indicators. These include expenditures on administrative costs, the accuracy of financial information reported to the TEA, and the presence of any financial vulnerabilities or weaknesses identified by external auditors.
The rating system uses a grade scale:
A for “Superior Achievement” (the highest honor)
B for “Above Standard Achievement”
C for “Meets Standard Achievement”
F for “Substandard Achievement”
In reflecting on this achievement, Chief Financial Officer Pablo Bazaldua said, “I am immensely proud to celebrate our 22nd consecutive ‘A’ in the FIRST accountability rating. This success is a testament to our entire team’s dedication and hard work. Their unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility has been crucial in reaching this milestone.”
By consistently earning the highest grade, Los Fresnos CISD demonstrates not just compliance with financial best practices, but a dedication to excellence in managing the resources that support student education.
