Los Fresnos CISD Adopts Budget for 2024-2025 School Year
- Updated: September 6, 2024
Los Fresnos, TX – On August 26, 2024, the Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees approved a comprehensive budget of $115.7 million for the 2024-2025 school year during a Special Called Board Meeting. This budget reflects a slight increase from the previous fiscal year’s budget of 1.5%.
A key highlight of this year’s budget is a reduction in the district’s tax rate. The new rate of $0.8802 per $100 valuation represents a decrease of 2 cents from the $0.9007 rate set in 2023. This adjustment aims to ease the financial burden on taxpayers while ensuring continued support for district operations.
Additionally, the approved budget includes salary increases for all eligible employees effective September 2024.
To qualify, employees must have served at least 90 days with Los Fresnos CISD during the 2024-2025 school year.
“Salary increases for Los Fresnos CISD staff were determined based on various factors that include remaining competitive in the market while supporting the retention and recruitment of high quality staff,” stated Pablo Bazaldua, Chief Financial Officer.
The budget also earmarks funds for ongoing improvements, including enhancements to cafeteria facilities, and supports the district’s projected student population of approximately 10,500 across its fourteen campuses.
“The Board of Trustees, in close collaboration with the administration and the instrumental business office, has diligently worked to uphold our fiduciary responsibilities while setting a high standard of excellence for the state. We deeply value the Board’s unwavering support and the business office’s crucial role in demonstrating our district’s financial leadership,” said Dr. Gonzalo Salazar.
