ACE Program Offers Educational and Economic Support to Disadvantaged Adults

By Mike Villarreal

As the new school year started, the Adult Continuing Education (ACE) program registrations were underway as well recently. ACE, a department of the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), serves as the fiscal agent for Cameron County, encompassing areas such as Los Fresnos, La Feria, San Benito, Harlingen, Port Isabel, Santa Maria, and Santa Rosa. The program’s unwavering commitment is to provide educational and economic support to diverse adults aged 17 and older who face disadvantages in these areas, ensuring their success.

ACE offers an exciting array of classes and programs, including Transitions classes, Career Pathways Classes, and Employment Certification in collaboration with YouthBuild and Texas Southmost College. Furthermore, the program facilitates job shadowing and employment mentoring through a partnership with a local business, Rich SeaPak.

ACE is a credible program, with the majority of its funding coming from Federal and State grant dollars. This financial support ensures the stability and quality of our services, allowing us to provide technical support, training, data management, materials, assessment, registration, and FTEs to Co-Op Sites and satellites within the community.

For those interested, ACE offers a highly accommodating schedule. Classes are scheduled throughout the week: 8:30 am-11:30 am and 12:30 pm-3:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, 5:00 pm-7:30 pm on Wednesdays, and 5:30 pm-7:30 pm on Wednesdays specifically for GED and ESL. Additionally, Friday mornings are reserved for tutorials from 8:30 am to 10:30 am.
