They are eagerly looking forward to the delicious offerings and warm hospitality. The city of Los Fresnos is excited about the new Pizza Hut and is ready to show them the warmth and support that makes this city unique. Together, they continue to grow as a community with opportunity.

Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 when two brothers borrowed $600.00 from their mom to open a pizza place in Wichita, Kansas, and named it Pizza Hut. Because their sign only had room for eight letters, they named it Pizza Hut. With service making you feel as if you were at home, the restaurant grew in popularity. As a customer, you were treated like family.

After a local real estate agent rented a building, they started catering to students and convinced them to open a pizza-making business. They knew little about the pizza-making business but quickly learned and opened their first franchise in Topeka, Kansas, in 1959.

In Aggieville, Kansas, Pizza Hut was the first to have delivery service available for the first time. By 1978, they had grown to over 4,000 outlets, but the brothers ended up selling the business to PepsiCo for over #300 million dollars USD. However, Frank stayed on as president as well as a board member until 1980.
Later on, Frank Carney became a franchise of Papa John Pizza in 1994 and, by 2001, ended up owning 133 locations. His company was based in Houston, but he ran stores in Texas, California, Missouri, Arizona, Hawaii, Kansas, and some in his hometown of Wichita. Frank had some legal troubles with Pizza Hut in the 1990s, with Papa John’s running a commercial that highlighted the fact and even showed Frank coming to a Pizza Hut stockholders meeting wearing a Papa John apron and saying he had found a better pizza. Frank won the Man of the Year at the Multi-Unit Foodservice Organization and the 1975 Silver Plate Award from the International Foodservice Manufacturers.

In 1991, he was inducted into the IFA Hall of Fame. In 2009, Frank was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and died from pneumonia after recovering from COVID-19 on December 2, 2020, at 4:30 am. at the age of 82.
Dan spent many years of his adult life playing polo recreationally with his son, a professional polo player, Mike Carney, president of the Fairfield Polo Club in Wichita, Kansas. Dan was awarded the Junior Achievement Wichita Business Hall of Fame in 2001.
