After the Week four loss to PSJA, the Los Fresnos Falcons bounced back by routing Edinburg High 38-14. Due up were the Sharyland Rattlers in the final week of non-district play. Looking to go into District on a high note, the Falcons went into the game riding a wave of momentum stemming from the Edinburg win.
Sharyland took control early on, taking the lead 12-7 in the first quarter. Los Fresnos would then proceed to dominate on offense and defense, outscoring the Rattlers by two touchdowns in the second quarter. Heading into the third quarter leading 35-26 at the half, The Falcons continued to control the game, scoring four more touchdowns in the third quarter. The Rattlers would only score one touchdown in the second half, as the Falcons would win 70-33, improving to 5-1 on the season.
Los Fresnos has officially ended their bi-district campaign. The Falcons head into their BYE Week. Returning from their BYE week will be the challenge as Los Fresnos begins 32-6A play. The 2024 UIL Realignment took place this past February and changes were made to many Districts, Especially 32-6A. Originally a six team district, The Rivera Raiders departed down to 5A DI, while the Weslaco Panthers were moved to 31-6A. Brownsville Veterans ascended from 5A to 6A. When it was all said and done, 32-6A became a five-team district. In a smaller district, every game becomes a “must win” and the Falcons know that very well.
Los Fresnos will begin district play Friday October 18 against the San Benito Greyhounds. Then the Falcons will take on newcomer Brownsville Veterans on October 24. The Falcons will host Harlingen to begin November on the 1st. To wrap up the regular season, the Falcons will travel to Sams Stadium to take on the Hanna Golden Eagles.
Last season, Los Fresnos finished in fourth place in District with a 2-3 record. Despite a losing record, the Falcons finished in fourth, reaching the playoffs. This year, it is a win-out mentality as one team will not reach the playoffs, so once again, it is a “must win” every Friday night coming up.
