Los Fresnos News
The Los Fresnos Lady Falcons began 32-6A play not too long ago and have had a great start so far. A lengthy non-district allowed the Lady Falcons to build upon their strengths and improve on their weaknesses. Especially in the now smaller district 32-6A, every game becomes a “must win”. The Lady Falcons took that to heart as they opened up 32-6A play with two straight sweeps over San Benito and Brownsville Veterans Memorial.
The Lady Falcons then took on rival Harlingen. In the past few years, both teams have battled out in some big games. Last season, Los Fresnos swept Harlingen in the series, winning both district meetings.
Set one came down to a close finish as a back and forth battle came in the favor of Los Fresnos 25-23.
Harlingen then proceeded to bounce back and flip the score 25-23 to tie it 1-1. The Lady Cardinals would then play a bit dominant, defeating the Lady Falcons 25-15 to go up two sets to one.
Set four, a crucial set came down to Los Fresnos stealing a win over Harlingen 25-23. In the final set, Harlingen went on a late rally to win 15-10, defeating Los Fresnos 3-2.
The loss is the first district loss of 2024 for the Lady Falcons. The Lady Falcons will have an off day before resuming district play against Brownsville Hanna up next. The Lady Cardinals and Falcons will meet again on October 26.
Despite the loss, Los Fresnos still sits atop 32-6A in first. The Lady Falcons will begin round two of 32-6A October 19.
