Chamber Hears Presentation from Accion Texas

“Leadership Los Fresnos” Program Unveiled to Members
The Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce heard a brief presentation from Sergio Rodriguez from Accion Texas on their services offered to small businesses at their recent meeting held October 22 at the Los Fresnos Inn and Suites.
Accion Texas is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential tools needed to grow a small business. Accion Texas offers loans to entrepreneurs without traditional collateral or sufficient credit history that is required by many lenders.
Mr. Jackie Kyger gave a presentation on a new program being offered through The Chamber – “Leadership Los Fresnos”. One of the goals of Leadership Los Fresnos is to build a network of community leaders who can enhance their problem solving and other leadership abilities through shared perspectives and working together. Similar programs have been offered in surrounding cities with great success.
Starting in February, 2014, nine monthly program events are planned with no meeting or event planned in the month of July. Graduation from the program will coincide with The Chamber’s Annual Banquet. The fee for the program will be $200.00 per person with the monies going directly to funding the program. Those business members interested may contact The Chamber office for more information or an application.
Chamber Executive Director Debra Badeaux welcomed guests and new members. New members for October were: Los Trevi Drive-Thru, Angelica Nails, Little Treasure Box Daycare and Learning and The Crazy Wrap Thing. Special recognition was given to Mr. Gonzalo Salazar, Los Fresnos CISD’s Superintendent thanks was given to Julia’s Restaurant for catering lunch.
Alexandro Trevino, from Los Trevi Drive-Thru, introduced himself and his family. He invited everyone to attend the ribbon cutting for the Los Trevi Drive-Thru on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. His business sales adult beverages and carries two specialty drinks, The Michelada and a tropical drink served in a pineapple.
Stanford Knowles, board member, announced that McDonald’s Restaurant plans to open October 31, 2013.
Upcoming events were announced and discussed.
- Octoberfest will take place in Memorial Park on October 31, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Octoberfest gives the children of the community a free, safe and fun environment in which to celebrate Halloween. There will be free rides, candy and entertainment. There will also be food for sale by vendors.

The drawing was held for the disaster fund gifts. Mrs. Badeaux thanked the following businesses for contributing gifts for the drawing: First Community Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Leo Aguilar Foundation, Southwest Good Samaritan Ministries, The Flower Gallery, Arnie’s Winghouse, Stripes Mrs. Polo Narvaez and Regina Taylor from the chamber office.
