County Leaders Speak to Los Fresnos Chamber

Request for Historical Photos to Display at New County Annex
Cameron County Commissioner David Garza was the scheduled guest speaker for the general meeting of the Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce held Tuesday, September 24. Before beginning his presentation, Commissioner Garza introduced Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos. Judge Cascos spoke to the group concerning the county commissioners being able to balance the budget by presenting a bond project and thereby not having to raise county taxes. County employees were given a $1000.00 raise with the commissioners foregoing any raise.
Commissioner David Garza gave a slide show presentation on the steps and progression during the construction of the Judge Luis Romero Annex Building in Los Fresnos. Commissioner Garza thanked the county for choosing The City of Los Fresnos for the placement of the annex building. There will also be an addition to the building of a drive-thru window for the Tax-Assessor/Collector Department. Commissioner Garza thanked Stanford Knowles, architect, for the design and advice during the building process. Commissioner Garza also made a request to the citizens of Los Fresnos for any old pictures of Los Fresnos’ downtown or businesses that could be scanned and hung in the annex. Commissioner Garza also thanked Mark Milum, City Manager, for helping in the decision of the location of the building.
The meeting had been called to order by Carmen Amaya, Chamber President, at the Judge Luis Romero Annex Building’s conference room. Mrs. Amaya led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The invocation was given by Msgr. Pedro Briseno from St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Los Fresnos.
A motion was made by Barbara Collum to approve the August 27, 2013 General Meeting Minutes. Ray Ortiz seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Debra Badeaux, Executive Director, welcomed guests and new members. New members for September were: Abbey’s Bakery, Carniceria Perez Meat Market, Esquivel Daycare and Learning Center, Just Plain Folks, Los Fresnos Formal Wear, Lucy Molina, Nina’s Fashions, and RGVIDA. Mrs. Badeaux also acknowledged Don Badeaux, Ex-officio of the Los Fresnos Chamber of Commerce.
Mrs. Badeaux thanked Elva’s Restaurant for catering the lunch. Narci Ramirez from The Los Fresnos Little League Baseball Association assisted in the serving.
Drawing for the disaster fund gifts was held. Gifts were provided by, The Flower Gallery, Carlota Narvaez, Reverend Feliberto Pereira, Pana Scott and Carmen Amaya of Wells Fargo Bank.
