Students Show Appreciation to Trustees at School Board Recognition Month
- Updated: January 24, 2014
Students at the 14 Los Fresnos CISD schools gave emotional presentations to trustees as part of School Board Recognition Month during the board’s regular meeting Monday.
Each of the seven trustees were honored by students at two schools. Board members moved near the lectern to hear passionate presentations from the students.
The theme for the 2014 School Board Recognition Month campaign was “Heart and Hands for Kids.”
Trustees and the schools honoring them for their many years of service to the community included:
- Board President Sandra Garcia: Resaca Middle School and Las Yescas Elementary
- Board Vice-President Sandra Pederson: Los Fresnos United and Los Fresnos Elementary
- Board Secretary Ruben Treviño: Los Cuates Middle School and Villareal Elementary
- Board Assistant Secretary Jesus Amaya: Liberty Memorial Middle School and Lopez-Riggins Elementary
- Trustee Rey Farias: Laureles Elementary and Olmito Elementary
- Trustee Martin Castillo: Los Fresnos High School and Palmer-Laakso Elementary
- Trustee Leonel Garza: Dora Romero Elementary and Rancho Verde Elementary
The Board Room/Training Center was packed with parents of students who gave presentations. Several presentations were very emotional included poetry, a short spelling bee, a song sung in candlelight, and a speech in Spanish.
Candles were the only light in the room during a song by Rancho Verde Elementary student Megan Allen to Garza.
Trustees asked all parents of children making presentations to stand and be recognized. After the recognition, the board took a recess as parents and visitors met with trustees.
Photos of the recognitions are posted on the district’s Flickr site at http://www.flickr.com/losfresnos/sets.
