Laureles Elementary has made History
- Updated: January 24, 2014
The Robotics team of Fabian Cervantes, Gaspar Gracia, Enrique Lozano and Billy Florez, dubbed “Fire Robots,” placed second at the Texas Computer Education (TCEA) Robotics Region I Competition Saturday in Pharr, and qualified for the state competition.
The group will be the first Los Fresnos CISD team to qualify for state in robotics. The Laureles team is coached by first grade teacher Angela Dunkin and Physical Education teacher Leo Robles.
The TCEA State Contest will be held April 12 at Deer Park, a suburb of Houston.
Only three of the 158 teams entered in the regionals qualified for state. The other two schools qualifying for state are from Edinburg.
Los Fresnos CISD was represented by 37 teams and 147 students at the regional competition.
At the Los Fresnos CISD Robotics Competition held in December, the Rancho Verde Team Venom won the 31-team elementary competition. Team members were Oziel Briones, Yahir Hernandez, Muhammad Khan and Carmen Lainez.
