LFU SWAT Team Visits Elementary Schools to Honor Students
- Updated: February 7, 2014
Members of the Los Fresnos United SWAT Team are on a mission – to recognize elementary school students who are doing the same things they are doing on the ninth grade campus.
The student advisory group members call themselves SWAT, an acronym for Students with Awesome Thoughts. They proudly wear orange t-shirts with the words “I Did Something Awesome!”
They know that some students in elementary schools are doing the same awesome things by getting good grades, attend class every day, and are involved in school activities. Elementary school administrators and teachers selected the students to be honored.
With the support of principal Jennifer Stumbaugh, they have begun visiting the nine elementary campuses in the district to find more SWAT in the fifth grade.
The group took a school bus and visited Dora Romero Elementary, Rancho Verde Elementary, Olmito Elementary, and Villareal Elementary recently. They will visit the other five elementary schools in February.
Stumbaugh also invited Los Fresnos CISD Vice-President Darlene Pederson to join them at the visit to the four schools as part of School Board Recognition Month. The seven trustees throughout the district have been invited to two schools each for school activities.
