LFHS BAND PERFORMS AT PIGSKIN COMPETITION SATURDAY

One of the oldest traditions in the Rio Grande Valley — the 72nd Annual UIL Pigskin Jubilee Marching Competition — will be held Saturday at Bobby Morrow Stadium in San Benito.
High school bands throughout the eastern half of the Valley will be performing in the competition which begins at 2:50 p.m.
Los Fresnos High School will perform at approximately 7:45 p.m., and is is the first of 10 Class 6A bands to perform. The last performance is scheduled at 10 p.m.
The LFHS Band’s performance is entitled “Conflicted,” which was written and arranged by Carol Brittin Chambers. It is inspired by Gandalf’s “In the Presence of Angels,” Alexander Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances,” Bliss’ “A Hundred Thousand Angels,” Frank Ticheli’s “Angels in the Architecture,” and Carol Brittin Chambers’ “Conflicted.”
Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at the gate or at the LFHS Band Office by calling 254-5356, or at the gate. Tickets have been grouped by school sold at the band office will be with others supporting the Falcon Marching Band.
Eight bands in the Class 2A, 3A and 4A level will begin performing at 2:50 p.m. Six bands in the Class 5A level will start performing at 5:05 p.m.
Final announcements are scheduled at 10:15 p.m. The Parade of Colors will follow, with all bands performing their fight songs around the track at Bobby Morrow Stadium. The bands are on the field and literally thousands of students wait to hear their ratings from the UIL judges.
Bands in the 4A and 6A classifications receiving a Division I rating will qualify the Area Marching Contest Oct. 25. The Area G Class 6A marching contest will be held at the Dub Farris Athletic Complex in Northside ISD in San Antonio.
