Laureles Sweeps Elementary Division at Robotics Meet

Laureles Elementary swept the top three places at the Los Fresnos CISD Robotics Meet Saturday at Resaca Middle School.
Thirty-one teams from the nine elementary schools participated in the Elementary Division. Nine teams from the three middle schools comprise the Middle School Division. Los Fresnos High School and Los Fresnos United will be represented by two teams each in the High School Division.
The district competition is a preliminary meet for the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) Area Competition, scheduled Jan. 24, 2015, at Edinburg Vela High School. All teams qualify for the area competition.
At last year’s area competition, Laureles Elementary placed second at area and qualified to the state competition in Deer Park.
The LES Crushers, made up of Tucker Wilson, Enrique Lozano, Belinda Fierro and Savannah Esquivel, scored 400 points to win top honors.
Also from LES, the Robotics Terminators, made up of Matthew Ovalle, Mairin Pazos, Angel Silva, and Gio Tobar, finished second, while the Scorpions, made up of Ingrid Campos, A.J. Lara, Jared Keller and Deena Santos, finished third.
Los Cuates Middle School’s Robonauts — made up of Jonathan Grimaldi, Gen Moskal, Madeline Camero, and Eliseo Quintero — were the top team in the Middle School Division.
The Los Fresnos United Team #1 — made up of Larry Muñoz, Mateo Garcia, and Sebastian Montalvo — won the High School Division.
