Los Fresnos CISD Earns Platinum Award From Comptroller
- Updated: December 19, 2014
Los Fresnos CISD has earned the Platinum Leadership Circle Award from the Texas Comptroller for exceptional financial transparency in the the Leadership Circle Program, which evaluates how local governments provide online access to expenses and revenue.
The new Platinum Award was created and presented to local governments that have exceeded the requirements for the previous highest level of disclosure. The recognition was presented after the district scored 21 out of 22 possible points on the Leadership Circle rating criteria.
There are 120 school districts who received the Platinum Award, including five others in the Rio Grande Valley.
The Leadership Circle Program honors local governments that open their books to the public, provide clear and consistent pictures of spending and share information in a user-friendly format.
“The Platinum Award reflects highly on our school district and the staff in our business offices,” Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar said. “The public can see that Los Fresnos CISD works hard to make sure that taxpayers not only have access to our financial information, but that we are diligent in our fiscal management.”
Los Fresnos CISD previously earned the Gold Award for posting budgets, financial reports and check registers online.
Earlier this year, the Comptroller expanded its bronze, silver and gold levels to include a new platinum level award that spotlights entities that go above and beyond to provide financial transparency.
“Since we began the Leadership Circle program in December 2009, an increasing number of local governments have worked hard to open their books to citizens in order to demystify finances,” said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.
“We thought it was important to recognize local entities that take even more steps to give taxpayers easily accessible information they need to help them make informed decisions as well as ask questions of their local elected leaders.”
