Schools Celebrate Read Across America Week
- Updated: March 13, 2015

Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz (top, in tie) read at Rancho Verde Elementary students.
Theodor Seuss Giesel was born March 2, 1904, but most students do not recognize his real name.
They do know the name Dr. Seuss, which Gisele commonly went by, as schools across the country remembered his birthday with Read Across America Week March 2-6 and the rest of the month.
Guest readers were invited to wear the familiar Dr. Seuss hat with red and white stripes to students who would listen to their stories.
Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz was one of the guest readers, and sat with a plop to tell the story of “The Lorax” to students in the after-school program at Rancho Verde Elementary.
Other guest readers included school district administrators who read stories such as “Cat in the Hat,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”
Students at Liberty Memorial Middle School performed a skit of multiple Dr. Seuss stories to the entire student body. The star of the show was a student dressed as The Lorax, who shared his story.
Read Across America expects more than 45 million readers throughout the country both young and old to pick up a book and read.
