Golf Tournament to Benefit Student Scholarships
- Updated: March 13, 2015
Area golfers are invited to participate in the 29th Annual Leo Aguilar Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday, March 14, at the South Padre Island Golf Club.
The tournament is open to four-person teams in a best-ball format. Registration will be held from 7-8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the first four places, and a Nearest to the Pin award. There will also be several door prizes.
Entry fee of $100 covers green fee, cart, goody bag, putting contest entry, raffle and post-tournament lunch.
All proceeds will go to the Leo Aguilar Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Leo Aguilar Foundation, which has awarded scholarships to area graduating students since 1971.
The foundation was started to commemorate Leo Aguilar, who lost his life in 1970. He was a senior and starting fullback for the Los Fresnos Falcons when he suffered a severe neck injury during practice. He was hospitalized and died Oct. 10, 1970, at the age of 17.
