H-E-B shoppers on Paredes Line Road in Brownsville was a noisy and fun place to be Wednesday during the store’s Sampling Showcase that raised $2,500 for Los Fresnos High School.
H-E-B hosted the two-hour event for the Los Fresnos CISD Wednesday evening. Dozens Los Fresnos CISD parents, teachers and district staff attended the event. Store customers were asked to sample six itemsfrom H-E-B. For each participant in the Sampling Showcase, H-E-B donated $10 to Los Fresnos CISD up to $2,500.
When the count was completed, 377 customers had turned in Sampling Showcase cards.
Members of the LFHS Stars Dance Team were hosts for the event, distributing cards and assisting in the success of the evening.
The highlights of the evening were musical performances by the LFHS Mariachi, Drumline and Conjunto Halcón. The Falcon Mascot was also in attendance, dancing with the H-E-B Buddy throughout the store.
The Mariachi and Drumline marched around the store, and stopped in five locations for performances. The Conjunto Halcón was a big hit from a designated location near the store’s north entrance.
“We are excited with the turnout for the Los Fresnos Sampling Showcase festivities,” Yvonne Loflin, H-E-B Border Region Public Affairs Specialist, said. “There was so much school spirit in the store, and the entertainment was fantastic. We look forward to partnering with Los Fresnos CISD on more events in the future.”
LFHS Principal Ronnie Rodriguez and English teacher Maritza Lievanos read to children who were visiting the store with their parents. The children received healthy snacks from the store for their participation.
“We had a few thousand people in the store in the two hours, and almost 400 of them sampled healthy food options,” Armando Sanchez, Brownsville H-E-B Plus General Manager, said. “It was a proud moment for us, and we’re always looking for ways to give back to the community. We look forward to serving this community for generations to come.”
