CATCH Health Expo Planned at Lopez-Riggins Elementary
- Updated: April 24, 2015
The public is invited to a Health Expo at Lopez-Riggins Elementary from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 24 as part of the school district’s CATCH initiative.
CATCH is an acronym for Coordinated Approach to Child Health, and the program has been implemented in several Los Fresnos CISD schools. The program is designed to prevent childhood obesity and launch children and communities toward healthier lifestyles.
The LRE Wranglerettes will perform at the beginning of the Expo and assist in the numerous activities.
There will be free health screenings, nutrition information and health food facts, fitness tests and healthy lifestyle information.
Sponsors include Los Fresnos restaurants Julia’s, McDonald’s and Subway, Los Fresnos Fitness Gym, Port Isabel Fitness Gym, and the Brownsville Crocs store.
Door prizes will be raffled throughout the Expo.
A major emphasis of CATCH is helping children learn to make healthy food choices. Students are encouraged to eat only healthy and nutritious snacks during the school day. Terms “Go,” “Slow,” and “Whoa” have been used to help children know foods that they should more – or less – of.
