LFCISD Board Meeting Highlights: 2015-16 Calendar Approved

The 2015-16 Academic Calendar was approved by the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees at its regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
District employees chose between two calendar options during voting held in March, and Option 1 received more votes.
Features of the calendar include:
Aug. 17-21: Teacher Staff Development and Preparation (Workday); 24: First day of class
Oct. 12: Columbus Day holiday; 30: Parent Academic Conference Day/Early dismissal
Nov. 23-27: Thanksgiving holiday
Dec. 21-Jan 1: Christmas holidays
Jan. 18: Teacher Preparation/Student holiday
Feb. 15: Teacher In-Service/Student holiday; 26: Holiday
March 14-18: Spring Break; 25: Good Friday holiday
June 2: : Last day of class/Early dismissal; 3: Teacher Preparation (workday); 4: LFHS Commencement
Stumbaugh Named CTE Director
Justin Stumbaugh, Los Fresnos High School assistant principal, was approved to become director of the Career, Technology and Education (CTE) program.
Two LFHS teachers were approved by trustees: Laurel Ellison, English/Language Arts and Physical Education and Jimmy Luke Howard, History
Student Achievement Recognized
Three Los Fresnos High School students groups were presented to the board for their achievements. They included:
FFA: Lead Teacher Sidney Carter introduced students who placed in the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, and teams that qualified for the State Career Development competition.
Powerlifting: Head Coach Mike Evans introduced members of the state champion girls’ Powerlifting team, and members of the boys’ team that placed fourth in state.
Chief Jose Marquez introduced six Cadets who serve as officers for the NJROTC program, which has qualified for state finals for the 13th straight year.
