HELP WANTED

Volunteers to Wait Tables to Fight Hunger in Los Fresnos

foodpantryJoin the Leo Aguilar Foundation, Los Fresnos CISD, and Denny’s restaurant in helping fight hunger in our community. Denny’s Restaurant located on Paredes Line Rd is allowing volunteers to wait tables for them on May 11th and 12th from the hours of 4-8 p.m., all tips and a percentage of the store’s revenue will go to the Los Fresnos Food Pantry. WE NEED YOUR HELP! 1 in 2 children go to bed hungry in “Our” community!

This event cannot be successful without YOU! You can help us fight hunger in our community by volunteering to wait tables or just by taking your family out to eat at Denny’s on one of those designated days. Food Pantry Facts:

– On average 963 individuals receive assistance every month from the Los Fresnos Community Food Pantry seeking food assistance due to illness, job loss or family crisis.

– In 2014 over 100,000 pounds of food were distributed by the LFC Food Pantry.

– The LFC Food Pantry’s monthly budget is $750 dollars.

– Families on fixed incomes have to choose between buying medicines and buying food.

– In the Rio Grande Valley, 1 in 2 children go to bed hungry.

– As a whole, nearly 50% of the children in the RGV live under poverty levels, according to the 2010 Census.

– For every dollar donated we are able to pay the food maintenance cost equal to five pounds of food.

What Makes Us Different?

– The LFC Food Pantry beneficiaries assist in the administration and daily management the food distribution.

– Volunteers have the opportunity to develop employable skills to pursue employment opportunities.

– 46% of the food being distributed is fresh fruits and vegetables to provide better nutrition for Los Fresnos families.

– It is a community where friends give each other a hand up by supporting one another.
