Many Answer the Challenge at Innaugural Triathlon
- Updated: June 19, 2015
The inaugural Los Fresnos Triathlon which took place at Los Fresnos Memorial Park on May 30, 2015 received better than expected participation. Participants arrived from all over to be a part of this new and free annual challenge.
The triathlon was the brainchild of the folks at 2RunCrew, LLC. Race Productions, a race management company, in cooperation with the City of Los Fresnos. The goal of 2RunCrew is to enhance the running experience of the individual and community. 2RunCrew offers various levels of running activities from free social and training runs to structured training programs for individuals looking to improve their running performance.
Coordinating the execution of the triathlon was certainly a labor of love which provided “newbie” and intermediate triathletes a great venue to test their skills.
The triathlon featured a Sprint Distance Triathlon which included a 250 yard pool swim, a 19 mile bike ride (2 loops around the course) and a 5K run. Also featured was a Mini-Sprint Triathlon which included a 125 yard pool swim, a 9.5 mile bike ride (1 loop around the course) and a 1.5 mile run.
“The pool’s proximity to FM1847 and Highway 100 makes the location ideal for triathletes wanting to practice their transition skills and get their long bike ride as soon as they get out of the pool, “says Javier Vazquez of 2RunCrew.
A training on that Saturday was also open to individuals wanting to try the sport but who might have limited swimming skills. “Swimming is the one component that seems to sideline most individuals from giving it their shot. The good thing is that swimming is a skill that can be learned by anyone who is willing to put in the practice, “says Vasquez.
Vasquez and his group specialize in races ranging from 5K to marathon distance and also focus on partnering with the community to further health initiatives and conservation efforts. They also offer guided tours to state and national parks in Texas, Colorado, Utah and Arizona.
The Los Fresnos Police Department also put together an amazing video that can be viewed at the City of Los Fresnos website.
