- Updated: October 9, 2015
Santos F. Solis was honored posthumously for her years of dedication and service to the Ethel L. Whipple Memorial Library.
The Friends of the Ethel L. Whipple Memorial Library held a ceremony to dedicate the Children’s Room to Santos F. Solis. Mrs. Solis was employed at the library as a clerk for over 25 years.
As part of her work at the library she planned and carried out many Summer Reading Programs for the children. Mrs. Ann Meyn shared many memories of Mrs. Solis saying that she was always very creative, pleasant, and eager to help everyone find just the right book. The Honorable
Mayor Polo Narvaez welcomed everyone to the ceremony. Mr. Manuel Abrego recognized the invaluable contributions by Mr. Harry H. Whipple in providing the funding to build the library in honor of his wife, Ethel L. Whipple.
Mr. Abrego also spoke of the very interesting history of Los Fresnos. Mrs. Benay Morris, Friends of the Library President unveiled the plaque and thanked everyone for attending.
In attendance were Mrs. Solis’s family and friends, along with several members of the community. It is special to note that Mrs. Solis’s daughter, Angie S. Lugo is continuing in her mother’s footsteps and is the current Library Director.
