University of Houston-Victoria’s Valdez earns Red River Athletic Conference Honor

University of Houston-Victoria midfielder Jonathan Valdez was recently named to the Red River Athletic Conference men’s soccer all-conference second team.
The sophomore from Los Fresnos played a key role in the Jaguars’ success this season where he tallied three goals and four assists. The Jaguars compiled a 12-4-1 record and reached the semifinals of the RRAC soccer championships.
Valdez led the Jaguars with 47 shots, including 21 shots on goal, for a .447 SOG/Shot average. He also had one game-winning goal.
In his two seasons with the Jaguars, he has recorded six goals and five assists, while put up 68 shots, including 31 on goal, in 33 games.
Valdez was not the lone Rio Grande Valley player to play key role for the Jaguars this season.
Valdez’s Los Fresnos teammate, Miguel Cruz, finished with five goals and two assists, including three game-winning goals, despite missing several games to injury.
Freshman Uriel Garcia of Pharr, tallied one goal and one assist, while Edinburg freshman Leonel Rivas saw limited action in five games, but still got off two shots, including one on goal.
