Nutrition Classes with Texas A&M Agrilife

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension offers a free Expanded Food and Nutrition Education program. The Expanded Food and Nutrition program is designed to help educate individuals on how to make healthy Nutrition choices at a low cost.
The mission of the Expanded Food and Nutrition program is to educate individuals in the home, students in the classroom, and people in the community with limited resources in order to make better nutrition and health decisions. The focus is on the development of strong, nurturing families, healthy children, and significant savings in food and healthcare costs for all participants.
Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) will be offering free Nutrition classes for the City of Los Fresnos at the Los Fresnos Boy’s and Girl’s club located at 900 N. Arroyo, Los Fresnos, TX 78566. Classes will be held on Monday’s at 9:30am beginning February 15th through March 28th.
A total of 7 lessons will be discussed on the following topics.
- MyPlate
- Food portions
- Calories
- Importance of physical activity
- Planning
- Setting limits (fats, sugars, & sodium)
- Food safety
The Nutrition classes will not only offer encouragement and knowledge of healthier eating but will also offer free incentives to participants including measuring cups, thermometers, grocery bag checklist, healthy menus and samples of delicious foods.
