Take the First Step to Living a Healthier Life

healthmatters

Walk Across Texas!
Walk Across Texas is a free 8-week exercise program designed to help Texans establish the habit of regular physical activity. The program works with individuals to form teams with their classrooms or with up to 8 other people. The goal is for the team to walk 830 miles or more in 8 weeks. That’s about 13 miles a week per person in a team of 8 for a total of 8 weeks!

Why do it?
Over two-thirds of Texas don’t meet the daily physical activity recommendations of 30 minutes of physical activity per day by the American Heart Association. Walking is considered one of the least expensive and easiest ways to exercise, and even just 30 minutes a day will improve your overall health.

Regular physical activity reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke, helps maintain or reduce high blood pressure, cholesterol, excess body weight and diabetes. It can even improve your energy, increase strength and reduce stress.
