Take the First Step to Living a Healthier Life

Walk Across Texas!
Walk Across Texas is a free 8-week exercise program designed to help Texans establish the habit of regular physical activity. The program works with individuals to form teams with their classrooms or with up to 8 other people. The goal is for the team to walk 830 miles or more in 8 weeks. That’s about 13 miles a week per person in a team of 8 for a total of 8 weeks!

Why do it?
Over two-thirds of Texas don’t meet the daily physical activity recommendations of 30 minutes of physical activity per day by the American Heart Association. Walking is considered one of the least expensive and easiest ways to exercise, and even just 30 minutes a day will improve your overall health.

Regular physical activity reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke, helps maintain or reduce high blood pressure, cholesterol, excess body weight and diabetes. It can even improve your energy, increase strength and reduce stress.

When does it start?
To participate with the City of Los Fresnos Walk Across Texas. Join us for the Walk Across Texas Kickoff FREE 5K on March 5th at 8am at the Los Fresnos Memorial Park located at 900 North Arroyo, Los Fresnos. TX 78566. Bring your team and a pair of walking shoes. The kickoff will include a FREE 5k walk/run and fun group fitness workouts to get you and your team started! There will be giveaways and booths available for you to visit.

Almost any physical activity (Zumba, biking or swimming) can be converted into miles with an online calculator.
