LFHS Students To Compete in State UIL Debate CX Meet

Los Fresnos High School seniors William Black and Christian Garcia have qualified for the 106th Annual UIL Cross Examination Debate State Meet at The University of Texas at Austin March 18-19.
The pair qualified for state by placing first in the region meet.
Sixty-four debate teams will compete. Preliminary rounds begin at 9 and 11 a.m. Friday and Rounds 3 and 4 are scheduled Friday afternoon. The top 16 teams advance to Saturday’s competition, highlgihted by the finals at 4:30 p.m.
William Black and Christian Garcia have been competing in debate for two years and have progressively improved since they started competing.
Black has earned two first-place victories in Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the Edinburg Economedes Tournament and the McAllen Tournament. Garcia placed first at the Hanna Tournament in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and third at the Edcouch-Elsa Tournament.
The State Debate topic is regarding China. “Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its domestic surveillance.”
