Clarisse Tudon Wins RGV Spelling Bee; Washington D.C. Next
- Updated: March 18, 2016
Clarisse Tudon, an eighth grade student at Los Cuates Middle School, won the championship at the Rio Grande Valley Spelling Bee Saturday at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen.
The win qualities her to the 98th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee May 25-26 at National Harbor, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C.
Tudon spelled the word “sanguinary” in the 13th round for the championship.
In the 12th round, Tudon and a speller from a Brownsville middle school were left standing. The runner-up misspelled her word on the 12th round, and Tudon spelled her 12th round word correctly. She then had to spell “sanguinary” for the championship.
The third place finisher was a middle school student from Edinburg.
