Construction To Affect Entrances to Los Fresnos United

by Ronnie Zamora/LFCISD

Untitled-1Road construction for the widening of FM 803 in front of Los Fresnos United will cause closure of entrances to the campus for about two weeks.

Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 5, the south entrance to the campus will be closed so that Texas Department of Transportation crews can begin work on the widening of the road in front of that entrance.

The road is being widened in front of LFU from a two-lane road to a four-lane road with a continuous left-turn lane.

The entrance will be closed for about a week. Parents and other visitors to LFU are asked to allow at least 10-15 minutes more time for bringing children to school and picking them up at the end of the day during this delay.

LFU principal Jennifer Stumbaugh sent a letter home to parents Wednesday notifying them of the change.

“While this transition will be difficult, we know that it means that construction process is moving along and it won’t be long before we have a beautiful four-lane road,” she wrote.

After construction in front of the south entrance is complete approximately May 12, that entrance will be open and the north entrance to the school – used for buses only – will be closed. Construction near that entrance is expected to last about one week.

Additional Los Fresnos CISD police and security will be assist with traffic control during this construction period. Parents and other students are asked to be patient during this construction period.

During the time the south entrant is closed, student drop-offs and pick-ups will be on the north entrance, the same side used by school buses.

All traffic using FM 803 at the start and end of school days will be impacted by the construction.

The realignment of FM 803 has been under construction since last summer. The new widened road will run from Interstate 69E at Rancho Viejo to Highway 100. The new road will be two lanes with a continuous left-turn lane from Rancho Viejo to a point south of LFU, and then become a four-lane road with a continuous left-turn lane from south of LFU to Texas Highway 100.
