LFHS Students Receive Golden Apple Awards from Administration
- Updated: May 20, 2016
Six Los Fresnos High School seniors received Golden Apple awards from school administrators at the LFHS Student Academic Achievement Banquet Tuesday at the Brownsville Events Center.
Invited to the event were more than 200 sophomores, juniors and seniors who were among the Top 10 students in their classes, and were on the A and A-B Honor Roll. Also participating were students who are ranked in the Top 5 Percent of their classes.
Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar and LFHS principal Ronnie Rodriguez presented the medallions to the students, who were accompanied by their parents or other relatives.
The honoring of the largest group of students followed presentations of the 8th Annual Golden Apple Awards by the Rodriguez, who is completing his eighth year as principal.
“I wanted to recognize seniors who had exemplified class, dignity and had shown a sense or pride throughout the year,” Rodriguez told the audience.
“It is not an easy task as you can ask any administrator who had to decide who was to get their Golden Apple Award. I asked the administration to consider someone who has not only made an impact on us, but their peers at Los Fresnos High School.”
Six students received awards by Rodriguez and the other five members of his administrative team. The student recipients did not know they were receiving the awards until just before their name was called.
Students selected were Kelsi McDonough, by principal Rodriguez; Jocelyn Sosa Ramirez, by Dean of Instruction Jeaneva Scoville; Kenneth Miller, by assistant principal Mary Esther Alvarez; Natalia de Leon, by assistant principal Cris Saldaña; Betsy Ahide Tellez Flores, by assistant principal Victor Monreal; Roque Villafranca, by assistant principal B.J. Paredes.
