New Road Opens in Front of Los Fresnos United

Traffic flow at Los Fresnos United should improve with the opening of a new paved portion of FM 803 closest to the school.
On the first class day of the 2016-17 school year, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) painted yellow and white stripes and opened the new section of the road about 2 p.m.
The new section stretches about one-half mile from Texas Highway 100 south to a point about 1,000 feet south of the south entrance of LFU.
The road construction is part of the Cameron County FM 803 Realignment Project. FM 803 will be widened from I-69E at Rancho Viejo to Highway 100. In front of LFU, FM 803 will be four lanes with a continuous left-turning lane. FM 803 previously was a two-lane road from FM 511 to Highway 100.
Construction will continue on the east side of the road and is expected to be completed in 2017.
LFU, which had been a ninth grade campus since it opened in 2009, will now house ninth- and tenth-grade students. Enrollment is about 1,800 students.
