Mariachi Groups Take Top Ratings at UIL Regionals

Three Los Fresnos High School/Los Fresnos United mariachi programs received Superior Division I ratings at the Region 28 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest held January 26th.
Receiving the top ratings were the Mariachi Halcón (varsity), Mariachi Halcón Dorado (junior varsity) and Mariachi Halconsitos (beginners). Mariachi Nuevo Halcón also qualified for the State UIL Mariachi Festival in San Antonio for the second consecutive year.
Mariachi Halcón also brought home awards in the Brownsville Charro Days Mr. Amigo Mariachi Competition, which attracted competition from schools throughout Texas and one from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Alejandro Martinez received first place in the Solo Vocal competition, and Juan Mario Alvarez took second place. Mariachi Nuevo Halcón ranked third in the high school mariachi group division.
