- Updated: March 10, 2017
by Ronnie Zamora/LFCISD
Palmer-Laakso Elementary students and staff held a campus celebration Friday, February 24th, for its new Leader in Me Lighthouse School status by Franklin Covey.
The school received its award at a Leader in Me symposium Feb. 15 in McAllen.
A balloon release from netting at the ceiling at the school cafeteria culminated the program, attended by the entire student body.
The Los Fresnos High School/Los Fresnos United Mariachi Halcón performed, along with poetry by students, and a special video about the school. Students also stood and recited the lyrics for the school song.
The recognition comes because the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the Leader in Me process.
PLE is the only school south of San Antonio to achieve the Lighthouse School status, and is one of 23 in Texas. Fourteen schools are in the San Antonio area. There are 271 Lighthouse Schools in the nation.
