Three New Teachers Approved at Board of Trustees Meeting

Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of three classroom teachers at the regular monthly meeting Monday.
Approved to new positions were:
- Maria G. Brown, Dora Romero Elementary
- Carolina Cowan, Ed.D., Los Fresnos Elementary
- Zachary Blackmon, Social Studies, Los Cuates Middle School
Trustees also recognized and congratulated members of the Los Fresnos High School swim teams and boys’ varsity basketball teams. The boys’ swim team won its eighth straight district title while the boys’ basketball team won its third straight.
Trustees also approved the following:
- Minutes for meeting held on Feb. 13
- Budget Amendment #8 for Fiscal Year 2017
- Ad-Valorem Tax Refunds for the Month of February
- Renewal of agreements/contracts for Property Insurance, CSP #13-14-35, with Certain Underwriters at Lloyds, London, Shepard Walton King, Agent, and with Travelers Insurance for Equipment Breakdown Insurance, Shepard Walton King, Agent, Effective May 15, 2017.
- 2017 Proclamation Textbook Adoption recommendations for areas of (1) languages other than English, (2) career and technical education, and (3) Algebraic Reasoning.
- Los Fresnos CISD Technology Plan for the 2017-18 school year.
- Memorandum of Understanding with the Children’s Bereavement Center-Rio Grande Valley for grief support counseling for the 2016-17 school year.
- Interlocal Cooperation Contract with the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley to conduct the 2017 University Transportation Center for Railway Safety Summer Camp.
- Out-of-state student travel for the LFHS Sea Perch Robotic Team to Atlanta, Ga. May 19-21.
- Bids/Offers Received from the Tax Resale Held November 1, 2016, for several properties.
