New FM 803 Opens, Old FM 803 Closes Temporarily

The much-anticipated FM 803 realignment project will improve traffic along a new highway from Rancho Viejo to Texas Highway 100.
The opening of the two-mile stretch of the FM 803 at its southern point at I-69E provides Los Fresnos United, a campus with almost 1,800 students, a smoother traffic flow. The road will be four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane in front of the school.
With the opening of the new section of FM 803 comes a temporary closing of old FM 803 from a point about 1,000 feet south of LFU to State Highway 550. Because of the road rehabilitation process, that 2.5-mile section of FM 803 will be closed to through traffic for rehabilitation.
Only residents who live in the area (local traffic) will be allowed. There will be no direct access to LFU from old FM 803. Parents of students who live near old FM 803 who wish to travel north should allow extra time to reach school destinations near LFU and along Texas Highway 100.
The public is encouraged to use the new FM 803 or seek an alternate route. California Road is an option for drivers – especially the ones who attend and work at Dora Romero Elementary – who wish to access old FM 803 from Highway 100 and vice versa.
