Carlos Qualifies for UIL Academic State Meet

Los Fresnos United sophomore Jose Carlos has qualified for the UIL State Academic Meet by winning his division at UIL Region Academics Meet April 8 at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Los Fresnos High School and Los Fresnos United qualified 17 students to the regional competition.
Carlos took top honors in the region in the Current Issues and Events category. He constantly reads daily news briefings on a variety of topics.
The Current Issues and Events Contest focuses on a basic knowledge of current state, national and world events/issues and consists of 40 multiple-choice questions and one essay. The essay is intended to assess the competitor’s ability to synthesize and evaluate information and present it in an informed manner.
Two LFHS students will be alternates at the state meet in their category, including Siegfried Gawenda, who placed fourth in the Literary Criticism category.
The Literary Criticism team composed of Gawenda, Analisa Solis, Isamar Pineda, Isela Escobedo placed second in the team category and is also an alternate for state.
