First-Year Teachers Prepare for New Experiences

Twenty-four teachers took part in the First-Year Teacher Academy at Rancho Verde Elementary Library.
They were undergoing staff development last Wednesday and Thursday to prepare them for experiences in classroom.
The 24 teachers with 0-3 years experience are spending staff development time on the following topics: Effective Teacher Characteristics; Getting Ready: Room, Lessons, Plan for Day One; The Professional Educator; E-Colors Training; Classroom Management: Time, Space, Materials; Classroom Management: Behavior; Working with Parents; Working with a Mentor.
The new teachers had several team-building activities and also met with a panel of experienced teachers in a Question-and-Answer session to close Wednesday’s second day.
On Friday, Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar will welcome the 24 plus 25 more teachers who are coming to Los Fresnos CISD after experiences in other school districts around the area, state and country. They will will see a video introducing them to the school district and will meet key administrators and learn more about the district’s history and mission.
The topics of discussion Friday include: Human Resources information; English Language Proficiency Standards training; Curriculum and Navigating the Instructional Server; Getting to know Los Fresnos CISD technology programs.
On Monday Aug. 7, all Los Fresnos CISD teachers reported to their campuses. Classes begin Aug. 14.
