Los Fresnos CISD superintendent Gonzalo Salazar has been named to a State Board of Education steering committee to help it develop a new Long-Range Plan for Public Education.
The committee will work throughout the 2017-18 school year to draft recommendations that will be sent to the SBOE, which will ultimately approve the final plan.
Salazar, who has led the Los Fresnos CISD for 11 years, was one of two superintendents named to the group. The other is George Kazanas of Midway ISD. Salazar was the only person south of San Antonio named.
The committee is made up of five SBOE members, three heads of state agencies, and 10 stakeholder representatives that include Salazar.
“The stakeholders selected will bring a wide breadth of experience to the table,” SBOE chair Donna Bahorich said.
Other stakeholder representatives include two teachers and one student.
