Los Fresnos Community Provides Overwhelming Response

Donations Pour In To Fill Large Semi Trailer
Nicole Solomon, Fire Chief Gene Daniels, the Los Fresnos Volunteer Fire Department / EMS and Los Fresnos community deserve special recognition for their ongoing relief efforts and giving spirit.
Nicole is daughter to Melba and the late Richard Meyn. She recently helped her neighbor Leslie Rowe collect donations, through River Church of Brownsville, for victims of Hurricane Harvey in the Corpus Christi area.
It all started very simply out of her garage and in a short time the first shipment was off to the Corpus area in a small trailer acquired by Leslie.
However thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the community the donations kept coming in and Nicole’s small garage could no longer handle the capacity of donations!
Nicole, with determination very much like her father Richard had, reached out to Fire Chief Gene Daniels to utilize the fire station as a depot and continue the relief efforts though this time in collaboration with the Salvation Army in Houston.
“Of course, absolutely we will open up the station if you can get volunteers to man and handle the deliveries” was Chief Daniels response.
Many volunteers, much like Hilario and Adhlemy Sanchez who set up a collection location in front of Triple AAA Block & Brick, as well as fire fighters offered to help Nicole collect and get the donations to Houston.
The donations continued to pour in, largely because of the mutli-point collection effort, so much so that it required a full size semi trailer to contain them.
The semi trailer was provided by Freight Central Logistics of Harlingen through the efforts of Mr. Garry Lowder, a close friend of the Meyn family.
Coordinating and organizing such efforts is no easy task but Nicole strongly believes her Father had been by her side giving her direction and the energy to make it a success! Thanks to the many volunteers the shipment arrived in the Corpus area at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 to help our fellow Texans. Great job Los Fresnos!
