More than 3,200 students in grades 6-9 gathered in four sessions at the Los United Dome for Middle Schools United Oct. 17-18.
The students gathered to listen to powerful and emotional presentations by Manuel Scott, a motivational speaker who was an original Freedom Writer and whose story is told in part in the 2007 hit movie, Freedom Writers.
Freshmen students from LFU gathered in one of two sessions Tuesday. In the second session Tuesday, sixth grade students from the three middle schools – Liberty Memorial, Los Cuates and Resaca – came together as one. They are the Class of 2024.
On Wednesday, the eighth grade and seventh grade students gathered in separate sessions.
Students from each school were selected by their principals to introduce Scott. They were: Class of 2021: Zoe Villarreal, Los Fresnos United; Class of 2022: Antonio Barra, Resaca Middle School; Class of 2023: Jalyn Ashford, Los Cuates Middle School; Class of 2024: Lane Halford, Liberty Memorial Middle School.
Scott has spoken to more than 125 groups a year at conferences, schools and banquets for the past decade. He has energized almost two million leaders, educators, volunteers, and students worldwide with his authentic, inspiring messages of hope.
Eighth grade students who will be attending LFU next year as freshmen were also introduced to clubs and programs that will be offered for them next year.
