Falcon Alumn Places 2nd at International Percussion Competition
- Updated: December 1, 2017

Anthony Flores performs at the 2017 PASIC Marching Percussion Festival College Division Timpani Competition.
Anthony Flores earned 2nd Place at the Percussion Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) on November 11, 2017, held this year in Indianapolis, Indiana. Anthony competed in the Marching Percussion Festival College Timpani Division where he performed a piece entitled “Fragments” composed by John Beck. Participants were judged on performance and musical effectiveness.
“The experience performing at PASIC is like nothing I’ve done before,” Anthony said. “I started second guessing my ability, but then remembered Dr. Moore’s advice to control what you can control and do everything you have to do to be successful and everything will work out.”
In order to attend PASIC and participate in the competition, Anthony submitted a proposal and was selected as a $2000 UTRGV Engaged Scholar Recipient. The scholarship covered the cost of the trip in addition to purchasing materials and implements he needed for his performance. Anthony will discuss his experience at an up-coming UTRGV Engaged Scholar Showcase presentation in Spring 2018.
Anthony Flores graduated from Los Fresnos High School in 2015 and played percussion in the Los Fresnos High School Band. Anthony is currently studying percussion at UTRGV Brownsville under the direction of Dr. Joe Moore.
