Nine Recognized for Earning Advance Degrees

Nine professional staff members who earned advanced degrees over the fall semester were recognized by the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees Monday night.
There were eight teachers and one librarian who earned master’s degrees. Five of them attended the meeting.
The five who attended and their degree included:
- Christopher Devlin, teacher, Resaca Middle School, Elementary Education
- Tania Caballero, teacher, Resaca Middle School, Educational Leadership
- Sarai Rodriguez, teacher, Palmer-Laakso Elementary, Curriculum and Instruction
- Carmen Loredo, librarian, Rancho Verde Elementary, Library Science
- Maria Brown, teacher, Dora Romero Elementary, Curriculum and Instruction
The four teachers who also earned degrees were:
- Amanda Ellison, Los Fresnos United, Administration
- Ivan Estrada, Los Cuates Middle School, Science
- Felix Jimenez, Liberty Memorial Middle School, Special Education
- Billy Karavasilas, Liberty Memorial Middle School, Special Education
Trustees also approved the hiring of three new staff members:
- Myra Zoraya Guzman, English Language Arts Teacher, Resaca Middle School
- Briana Alys Alegria, Registered Nurse, Los Fresnos United
- Eleuterio Martinez III, Counselor, Los Fresnos High School
Under Action Items, trustees approved the following:
- Authorization to District administration to submit an attendance waiver for class days December 8, 2017 and January 17, 2018
- Add, Revise or Delete LOCAL Policies as recommended by TASB Policy Service and according to the instruction sheet for the TASB Localized Policy Manual Update 109 – First Reading
- Out-of-State travel for the Los Fresnos United Ninth Grade migrant students to Washington, D.C. June 24-29
- Minutes for meeting held on Jan. 15
- Budget Amendment #6 for Fiscal Year 2018.
- Agreement/contract for independent contractors for Staff Development
Trustees also received District Reports about portfolio, tax collection, summary revenue and expenditures, monthly disbursements and budget adjustments.
