Two non-profit organizations are this year’s recipients of a donation given by Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee.
The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army each received a check for $2,500 during a meeting held April 17 at the Lions Club here.
The money came from revenues generated during the 29th annual rodeo held Feb. 16-18.
Mike Todd, the committee president, said the donation is part of one of their goals to give back to the community.
“We are supporting the Red Cross and the Salvation Army this time,” he said, “by presenting these two checks for $2,500.”
Danella Hughes, executive director with the American Red Cross, thanked the Rodeo Committee for the donation.
“The money will go to the Red Cross hurricane relief fund,” she said. “It’s a necessary donation.”
Hughes said people are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, the first major tropical storm to make a landfall on parts of the Texas middle coast last August.
Todd said the committee donated more than $20,000 last year in scholarships and to several organizations.
“We like to give back to the community,” he said. “We’ve got some expenses but made enough to pay our bills and to the make some improvements, too.”
