Los Fresnos Provides Residents with Healthy Alternatives
- Updated: June 22, 2018

If it isn’t eating healthy and right, Zumba dancing, walking or jogging, it’s something else the residents of Los Fresnos do as they take advantage of the many services the city offers.
Add foam rolling to the city’s Community Outreach Program.
On a recent day about two dozen people who meet every month at the Memorial Park on North Arroyo Boulevard took to the floor of the basketball court for a different type of exercise.
Each of them laid on top of a dark gray roll made of foam and started listening to one of three instructors from Airrosti, a Harlingen-based company run by Joseph C. Siragusa.
He said they we were invited to hold a class on what he describes as fascia tissue.
“We work on soft tissue injuries,” he said. “In other words, on any types of pain from the feet to the head.”
Siragusa said some people who have been having pains for years go to their office to get treated.
The foam rolling is one of the ways to work on damaged tissues. Among its benefits is the improvement of flexibility, better circulation, stress reduction and help prevent injuries.
Cora Ruiz, one of the residents attending the monthly classes at the park, said this is her fourth year doing so.
“I love this program the city offers,” she said. “It’s free and anyone can join it.”
The program offers a variety of free activities, including nutrition support, blood pressure screening and follow-up care for men and women 18 years or older.
