Adopt a Beach Cleanup Friday on South Padre Island
- Updated: February 8, 2019
by Tony Vindell/LFN
Going to enjoy the beaches of South Padre Island is a routine for many Rio Grande Valley residents.
Unfortunately, these same beach goers are partly responsible for leaving trash behind even though trash cans are placed so many feet apart at two of Cameron County-run parks on the Island.
They are Isla Blanca Park on the south and Edwin Atwood Park on the north side of the Island.
Edwin Atwood Park was chosen as the site for the winter beach cleanup under the Texas Adopt-A-Beach Program of the Texas General Land Office.
The cleanup is this Friday, Feb 8th and anyone wanting to help keep the beach clean is urged to participate.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the cleanup will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Volunteers should bring closed-toe shoes, plenty of water and a hat or a cap to cover their heads if they wish.
The park is at Beach Access Road 5 off State Highway 100.
For more information please call the county’s parks department at 956-761-5494 or the Texas General Land Office at 1-877-892-6278.
